Hyatt expands in the Middle East with two new properties

Hyatt has announced expanding its Middle East portfolio with two new properties – Alila Hinu Bay in Oman and Grand Hyatt Al Khobar Hotel and Residences in Saudi Arabia.

The newly opened Grand Hyatt Al Khobar Hotel and Residences, featuring 368 rooms, including 54 residential units, is located in the commercial and retail heart of Al Khobar and features all-day dining facilities, a lobby lounge, banquet halls, fitness center and spa.

Meanwhile, the yet-to-open Alila Hinu Bay in Salalah, Oman, located on 45 hectares of beachfront, features 112 rooms and offers guests’ farm-to-table dining experiences in its restaurants. See more at Business Traveller …

A Marriott hotel pilot is using automated kiosks to check-in guests

Marriott is testing automated kiosks equipped with touch screens that can check-in guests and spit out room keys, as well as giant vending machines it calls “grab-and-go marketplaces” that can dispense everything from coffee to breakfast sandwiches and cereal.

The new kiosks are being tested at two New York City hotels — the Moxy in Times Square and the Courtyard New York Manhattan/Midtown East. They also are being piloted at the TownePlace Suites in Monroe, Louisiana. A test also is scheduled for the Moxy in Miami. See more at NY Post …

Hundreds of sewage leaks detected thanks to AI

Researchers say hundreds of previously unreported releases of raw sewage into UK rivers have been detected thanks to artificial intelligence. Scientists identified 926 “spill events” from two wastewater treatment plants over 11 years by employing machine learning. The UK Environment Agency said it was “impressed by the accuracy” of the approach. “We welcome any tool that prevents pollution,” the agency said. The researchers, who published their study in the journal Clean Water, trained a computer algorithm to recognize, through the pattern of flow through a treatment plant, when a spill was happening.
